Dialysis catheter malfunction

چکیده
Vascular access is a crucial factor in the treatment of hemodialysis patients. Dialysis catheters are associated with higher mortality than fistulas, meaning they should be the last choice for most patients. Although they have many drawbacks, catheters play an important role in providing a reliable vascular access in some patients. Dialysis catheter dysfunction is a major cause of morbidity. Early dysfunction usually occurs as a result of mechanical issues while late dysfunction is most commonly due to thrombosis. The causes of dysfunction and their management are distinct, and understanding of them is essential to preserve catheter patency and improve dialysis patient outcomes.

A patient-focused approach to thrombolytic use in the management of catheter malfunction.
Thrombus-related catheter malfunction is a significant problem for catheter-dependent dialysis patients. The primary medical intervention is the local luminal installation of thrombolytic agents (TLAs). There are three major TLA installation methodologies: locking, push, and infusion protocols. A systematic literature review of existing TLA protocols for treating dialysis catheter malfunction w...
متن کاملVideolaparoscopy as rescue therapy and placement of peritoneal dialysis catheters: a thirty-two cases single centre experience
Background. Malfunction of the peritoneal catheter is a frequent complication in peritoneal dialysis (PD). Videolaparoscopy is a minimal invasive technique that allows rescue therapy of malfunctioning catheters and consecutive immediate resumption of PD. Furthermore, Tenckhoff catheters can be safely positioned in patients with previous abdominal surgery. We analysed the clinical diagnosis, vid...
متن کاملCase Report Correction of migrated peritoneal dialysis catheter using processed gastroscopic brush: report of six cases and method description
Catheter malfunction caused by migration of the catheter tip is an ongoing challenge in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Reimplantation of a new catheter by open operation exposes the patient to additional hazards and costs. Non-operative treatment such as manual reduction, appropriate exercises and purgative enema tend to have a poor success rate. In this study, we report...

Objectives: Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is an established alternative method to hemodialysis for treating endstage renal disease patients. Malfunction of the peritoneal catheter is a frequent complication in peritoneal dialysis (PD). Laparoscopy is a minimal invasive technique that allows rescue therapy of malfunctioning catheters and consecutive immediate resumption of PD....
متن کاملA Novel Technique for Laparoscopic Salvage of CAPD Catheter Malfunction and Migration: The Santosh-PGI Hanging Loop Technique
CAPD catheter malfunction is a common problem. Obstruction due to wrapping by appendices epiploicae of sigmoid colon has been rarely reported in literature. We report a case of CAPD catheter malfunction caused by catheter tip migration and obstruction by appendices epiploicae that was successfully managed by laparoscopic hanging loop technique. This case report highlights the ease with which ep...
